2011

Expansion Russia

The expansion into Russia in 2011 was further expanded with the opening of the 5th Market at 24. November 2011 in Biruljevo.

2010

Coop takes transGourmet Group

On 10 January 2011, the COOP has taken over the "transGourmet Holding" to 100%.

Expansion Russia

The expansion into Russia in 2010 was further expanded with the opening of two other markets. At 04 March 2010 the third Market in Vnukovo and at 30 November 2010 the 4th Market in Altufjewo.

Expansion Poland

The expansion into Poland in 2010 was further expanded with the opening of the 13th Market on 26 October 2010 in Lodz.

2009

Expansion Romania

The expansion into Romania in 2009 was further expanded with the opening of the 18th SELGROS market in Romania at 01 September 2009 in Bucharest-Drumul Taberei.

Expansion Russia

The expansion into Russia in 2009 was further expanded with the opening of the 2nd Market in Russia on 31 March 2009 in the city of Ryazan.

2008

Expansion Russia

This year, FEGRO/SELGROS expanded its international activities. The first SELGROS market in Russia was opened on 18 December in Kotelniki. SELGROS Cash & Carry offers a comprehensive selection of food and non-food products at wholesale prices in over 10,000 square meters of store space.

REWE Group and COOP Switzerland form the second largest B2B Business in Europe

On 27 October 2008, the two firms REWE Group (Germany) and COOP (Switzerland) agreed to launch a new joint venture by the name of “transGourmet Holding S.E.”. In the future, the international Cash & Carry businesses and Food Services of both companies will be bundled under “transGourmet Holding.”

In particular, the new “transGourmet Holding” will bundle the activities of the FEGRO/SELGROS Group and the REWE Bulk Consumer Services Ltd., as well as those of transGourmet Switzerland, under one roof.

REWE Group assumes Otto Group's share of FEGRO/SELGROS

On 13 March 2008, the Cologne-based REWE Group assumed the 50% stake in FEGRO/SELGROS held by its long-term joint-venture partner, the Hamburg-based Otto Group, retroactive to 29 February 2008.

Extending International Expansion into Romania and Poland

International expansion was furthered in 2008. The 17th SELGROS market in Romania was opened on 25 March in Brăila, and the 12th market in Poland was opened on 4 December in Bialystok.


2007

Opening of the 70th FEGRO/SELGROS Market

This year the foreign activities of FEGRO/SELGROS are being further extended. This foreign expansion includes the opening of the 25th international market in Rumania (Suceava).

Furthermore, Hamburg Harburg will see the opening of the 45th FEGRO/SELGROS market in Germany.

Altogether, the company FEGRO/SELGROS currently operates 75 wholesale markets in Germany, Poland and Romania.

2002-2006

Opening of the 10th SELGROS market in Poland and Romania

The foreign expansion has been continued this year. In 2005, the 10th SELGROS market was opened on 9 August in Arad. The same year also marked the opening of the 10th market in Poland on 27 September in Warsaw. Thus the foreign expansion increased to a total of 20 SELGROS markets.

Also in Germany, further markets were built this year and with the opening of the FEGRO/SELGROS market in Führt on 3 March 2005, the number grew to 40 markets located in Germany.

2001

Expansion Romania

This year FEGRO/SELGROS began a further activity in a foreign country. On 29 May 2001 the first SELGROS Cash & Carry wholesale market was opened in Brasov, Rumania.

1997

FEGRO/SELGROS goes international

A further milestone in the history of FEGRO/SELGROS was the opening of the first SELGROS Cash & Carry market in Poland on 1 July 1997 in Poznan.

1990/1991

Opening of the first SELGROS market in Eastern Germany

In the autumn of 1990, in a temporarily furbished warehousein Chemnitz, the first SELGROS wholesale market in one of the „New German States“ is opened .This makes it possible for FEGRO/SELGROS to be able to contribute to supplying the small and mid-sized professional customers in this region.

The 3 August 1991, the official opening of the SELGROS wholesale market in Chemnitz with its entire fresh assortment of goods, was a great event. Further SELGROS wholesale markets followed in Cottbus, Dresden and also in Leipzig, in an ex factory hall.

1989

Founding of OHG FEGRO/SELGROS

The founding of the OHG FEGRO/SELGROS Gesellschaft für Großhandel mbH & Co., with REWE & Co. OHG Bad Homburg and OTTO GmbH & Co. KG Hamburg both having a 50% stake in the business. Ten FEGRO and six SELGROS wholesale markets are integrated in this new company which now has its headquarters in Neu-Isenburg.

1979

OTTO becomes stakeholder at FEGRO and REWE at SELGROS

This is the year in which the SELGROS wholesale markets in Neu-Isenburg, Goldbach and Mannheim are taken over by REWE Handelsgesellschaft Leibbrand OHG.

OTTO GmbH & Co. KG Hamburg becomes the stakeholder of FEGRO-Großhandelsmarkt GmbH & Co. KG with markets in Eschborn, Rodgau and Mannheim.

1966

Opening of the first FEGRO market

F.W. Fertsch & Cie GmbH opens the first wholesale market of FEGRO-Großhandelsgesellschaft in Eschborn/Taunus. Food- and non-food articles are on offer in a 7,000 sq m warehouse.

1959

Founding of the first SELGROS

The first SELGROS (SELbstbedienungs-GROSshandel) SELfservice wholesale market is founded by the SPAR headquarters Georg Weber KG in Offenbach/Main. On the 15.sq m only groceries, without fresh produce, are on offer.
